About DNS server and website settings

The settings you need to know if you want to change your DNS server or website set-up.

DNS server and website setting FAQs

DNS stands for domain name system. While we see domain names made up of letters and words in our browsers, our computers or devices see them as numbers (like the ones in the table below). DNS is the system that constantly works to change these numbers to readable letters and words. Your DNS is normally assigned to you automatically, but if you want to choose which DNS to use, here are the settings you'll need.

To set standard DNS server addresses
    Primary 212.159.13.49
    Secondary 212.159.13.50
To set alternative DNS server addresses
    Primary 212.159.6.9
    Secondary 212.159.6.10
To set Plusnet Safeguard DNS server addresses
    Primary 213.120.234.38
    Secondary 213.120.234.42

Lost with the IT jargon? Check our guide about what is DNS to help you understand the basic stuff in plain English.

If you've got a website that we host on our network, you'll need to make sure your settings match the ones below so you can change and update your site. You can do that using whichever software you use to build your site.

    Type Settings
    Your website www.username.plus.com
    CGI ccgi.username.plus.com
    FTP (uploading files) ftp.plus.net
    CGI (uploading scripts) cshell.plus.net

For more help with that, take a look at our web space guides.
